Bish's Sabbatical Soundtrack Part 1

I absolutely love music. I can't play any yet. But maybe one day. Lauren and the kids just got me a harmonica for Father's Day! Sabbatical Goals!

One of the things I value most about music is the way it can express emotions deep in my heart that I didn't know were there or how to express them. The Lord often speaks to me through music. It is something beautiful to experience in a heart and a world that often feels emotionally ugly and hard.

I love sharing music with other people. My love for music is one way God wired me. Additionally this appreciation and affection for music was instilled in me by my Dad. He wore out more tapes and records than I can keep track of. The last time I traveled across the country was with my family as a young child. Dad had to buy Hootie and the Blowfish, Cracked Rear View cassette tape at least 2 or 3 times because the tape literally wore out. I enjoyed every minute of it. He pretty much always has music playing and now I am the same way. Thanks Dad for modeling the enjoyment of that good gift!

Most of Lauren and my dates are to concerts. Sharing that time together is so enriching and typically a spiritual experience.

Sending songs to friends, family, and people I'm ministering to is a way I express my love and care.

Like my Dad, I'm one to wear out an album and my kids and wife pretty much will never wake up to a quiet house.

your fellow traveler,
-Matt

***My taste of music is very wide, some is not explicitly Christian (whatever that means), but to me it is all beautiful. Kind of like a cup of coffee, once you know it's a quality brew, you don't ask if it's "Christian," you simply drink deep and enjoy fully.

Lastly, a few of the songs occasionally have "sometimes words" and I'll try to make note of that as I share music throughout the blog!  Sometimes words are also know as "bad words." Our family is working on focusing more on the motive, tone, and heart behind words than the specific words themselves.
